Aloo Chechki or Sada Aloo Chorchori is a delicious, simple and quick Bengali style potato curry tempered with nigella seeds (kalo jeera) and green chilies. A popular Bengali breakfast is best served with gorom phulko luchi (fried puffed bread).
Hello my lovely friends!! Hope you had a lovely weekend.
I had a good time with friends this weekend. Good food, gossip equals good times.
But seriously speaking I am totally missing the sun sand and sea. Oh Egypt! how I miss thee…
I will soon post a travelogue. Promise! Promise!
But for now let’s get back to this simple Bengali style potato curry. A very famous and popular Bengali breakfast luchi and this simple potato curry. It is such a simple dish yet so delicious. And trust me when I say that luchi and aloo chechki is like the best combo ever.
Sunday Merories
Aloo Chechki or sada aloo torkari brings back so many childhood memories. As a kid my sister and me used to wait for Sunday. Sundays were so so special. Especially when baba used to prepare this aloo chechki.
And what really got us so excited and intrigued about thi curry was the way how baba used to cut the potatoes. Very thin long strips of potatoes, really, nothing like how I cut my potatoes in this curry. Way way way thinner. Baby sis used to call this matchstick aloo torkari (potato curry). haha…
Good Ol’ days!!
Here are some other Sunday dishes that we prepare and enjoy with luchi or rice Kosha murgi mangsho (bhuna chicken), patla mangshor jhol (lamb curry).
Like I said earlier this Sada aloo chorchori or torkari is a super simple and super quick to make. This curry recipe requires no skills and can be made with in 30 minutes.
Heat oil, temper with nigella seeds and chilies. Then add the potatoes and green peas (absolutely optional) along with salt and turmeric powder mix everything well and sauté for few minutes. Add water and let it simmer until the potatoes are cooked through. Sprinkle with some freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve.
This was my Sundays breakkie. Luchi (I made some whole wheat luchi to go with this potato curry) or poori (fried puffed bread) with this potato curry and some adrak wali chai.
Go check out the step by step recipe of this delicious Potato curry.
